The short version: FrameShot works entirely on your Mac. We never receive your screenshots, recordings, recognized text or anything else you capture. The app has no accounts, no analytics and no tracking, and this website sets no cookies. When you buy a license, Creem processes your payment and shares with us only what we need to deliver and support your license.
This policy explains what information The Hangover Company ("we", "us") handles when you use the FrameShot app for macOS (the "App") and the website at https://frameshotapp.com (the "Site"), and the choices you have.
1. The App
Your captures stay on your Mac
Screenshots, screen recordings, GIFs, annotations, recognized text and your capture history are created, processed and stored only on your Mac. They're saved to the folder you choose and to the App's history in ~/Library/Application Support/FrameShot. We don't have access to them, and the App never uploads them anywhere. Text recognition uses Apple's on-device Vision framework.
Content leaves your Mac only when you choose to send it, for example by copying, dragging or sharing it into another app. What happens to it then is governed by that app's privacy policy.
macOS permissions
The App asks for these permissions, each used only for the purpose described:
- Screen & System Audio Recording (required): to capture your screen and, if you turn it on, system audio in recordings.
- Microphone (optional): to record your voice in screen recordings, only while a recording is running.
- Camera (optional): to show the camera bubble you add to a recording.
- Accessibility (optional): to scroll the window under a scrolling capture for you.
You can grant or withdraw any of these at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security.
No analytics or tracking
The App contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting software and does not collect usage data. Your settings are stored locally in macOS preferences.
License activation
To check that a license is valid, the App may contact the licensing service of Creem when you activate or deactivate it, sending only your license key and a random identifier for your Mac. No captures, file names or usage information are sent.
2. The Site
The Site doesn't use cookies, analytics, advertising pixels or third-party fonts. Like any web server, our hosting provider automatically records standard request information (IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) in server logs. These logs are used only to keep the Site running and secure, and are deleted on the hosting provider's regular schedule.
3. Purchases
Purchases are handled by Creem, which acts as the merchant of record: it processes your payment, calculates and collects sales tax or VAT, and issues your receipt and license key. Your card details go directly to Creem and are never shared with us.
From Creem we receive your name, email address, country, order details and license key, so we can deliver your license, provide support, process refunds and meet our tax and accounting obligations. How Creem handles your information is covered by its own privacy policy.
4. Emails to us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and use it only to reply and help you. We don't add you to marketing lists. If you ask to be told when FrameShot launches, we'll use your email address for that one announcement and then delete it.
5. Legal bases
Where data protection laws such as the GDPR apply, we process purchase information to perform our contract with you and to meet legal obligations (such as tax records), and we process server logs and support emails on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure service and answering your questions.
6. How long we keep information
We keep purchase records for as long as tax and accounting laws require, typically up to 7 years, and support emails for as long as needed to help you. Everything else is kept only as described above.
7. Sharing
We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers described above (our payment provider and hosting provider), when required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export the personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. To make a request, email [email protected]. We'll answer within 30 days.
9. Children
The App and the Site are not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect their information.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we'll say so clearly on the Site before it takes effect.
